hey Murka
i've got an apprehension about this skirt
maybe more than i should
i think it might float to high on the breeze
or stay down looking skinny as you please
then she made that sound as if the wind was whistling through the trees
causing a fit of laughter that one rarely sees
many leis have been made
from the finest flowers
with an aroma showing how beauty is above all power
roses and gerberas same color as ones woven in the fabric
blending all together each one says "how fantastic"
Cycle Babble and i see the sunny afternoon
feeling like we're missing
pedaling along the winding road
but our dreams they soon come true
and we're out there with the best of them
from the opal land to natural bridge and beyond
a pride of fixed gear freaks has us racing to the village
hammering along like messengers between the beasts
when we reach the beach
we hear ratha-bhojana-vrksa calling
calling us back for vaikalika so Cycle Babble begins hauling
with the toad in tow he climbs the skater's hill
pedaling so skillfully they all avoid a spill
back to the main street where the black smoke billows
to the ashram street chasing kalarupa through the willows
hop the chain, jumping over the down elm tree
landing in black berry bushes and have to ford the creek
Kumar is there to greet us as the thakuras are awakened
surprised to see just how short it's taken
in the evening they get dressed up again
in red and chinese silk let the all night party begin
'till brahma muhurta comes
and day starts to the beat of mrdunga drums
it's getting warmer these days
now that the fog has burned off
the thakura's curtain is opened
lets go in and see them
i understand they're dressed up in red
with the peacock feathers embroidered like the one on Giridhari's head
they're surrounded
aren't the petals in the leis rolled up unique
there are sumanas flowers round their necks
makes them feel better
now we can understand a little about the man
who travels in cowherd boy band
with peacock feathers in his hair
and today they're embroidered on the clothes he wears
it's a sunny afternoon
Cycle Babble and i have the fire inside
get out and pedal don't even try to hide
chasing down some cruisers on their way to beach
as we sprint along they are coming within reach
flying by the sufferer thakura with a fresh lei on
winding round the lighthouse where an artist captures it in crayon
as we hear the ratha-bhojana-vrksa calling
seems this ride has gone by so fast
still Cycle Babble makes the turn at abhavana maul the last
coming up beach hill
there's a little thrill
to see a band of pedalers that can't decide which kind they are
riding with lawn mower engines that take them far
but then it's the cyclists they've abandoned
Cycle Babble meets with kalarupa and sprints back to the land
over the chain through the back woods
sunset celebration going as it should
at night thakuras put on yellow and cyan
with pendants that name the dress "laughing lion"
devotees spirits soar
when Murka opens up the door
and they hear the roar during brahma muhurta
Gaura Purnima was here again
when the thakuras got these new clothes
blue and pink combine with pups mukuts
sankirtan has come to take us home by sri guru's krpa
leis today of roses and sumanas flowers
see how the mercy continues to shower
there was a lion in the zodiac and at the moment of birth
a blue ribbon personality had appeared and brought all new mirth
wind blowing chill factor
pedaling with fatigue detractor
fixed gear freaks sprinting past
teasing Cycle Babble and i who aren't harassed
so pedal on between the lakes
as best we can for heaven sakes
but then how serious can we be
if our pedals are only SPD
and we still use nine rear cogs
to return when called by the ratha-bhojana-vrksa
for the sunset ceremony avoiding the raspberry bushes that might stick ya
then smell the incense that Murka offers
hear the sound of the cook's choppers
then listen as he dresses
the thakuras for rest
in Prahlad-a-dad
orange panel skirt to dance
till brahma muhurta gives all a chance
to see them after rising from bed
puckawalla and our gang
yeah it's in-house slang
ghee or not
our rich uncle really doesn't have a lot
raise the standard
they cried from across the river
more gold less silver
our gang sat and our hearts began to quiver
brown and orange
with rose leis who's patterns cover the range
of all of Roy G. Biv
with such a lot of love to give
a team of racers enfolded Cycle Babble and i
pushed and pulled us along the main street
with their pedaler's eternal selves
up the skater's hill and down through
the village where the tourists laugh at themselves
as they hop on their boards
to the end of the wharf
ratha-bhojana-vrksa calls us home
and we pedal right out of the crowd
meeting kalarupa under the famous tree
we pedal right out of the crowd
at night Murka dresses the thakuras
in pale green and purple
and they dance away
thill the crowd come for brahma muhurta arati
this one came a couple of years ago
a couple of years ago on Gaura Purnima
zigzag pattern for all three
Mahaprabhu's chodder
Giridhari's coat
the front of Srimati Gandharvika's sari
green so hot it looks electric
leis of jonquils and narcissus
zigzags like a serpent's path
Cycle Babble and i counting the distance
between us and the shop team
catching up to them would be so fine
through the cove and between the lakes
all the dust and the geese we're right on their wheel
rounding the corner near the cruiser king
ratha-bhojana-vrksa calls out
start the journey back it's the same route
the party's about to start
it's Gaura Purnima and the devotees celebrate the Lord of their heart
a new dress to put on
Giridhari's chodder and Mahaprabhu's cape
along with Srimati Gandharvika's sari is swollen
seamstress says "keep those pleats rolling Murka!"
don't try to understand them
she's tied them up to hang on
extra leis of mums and plumerias
and you may never see parasol effulgence again
seeing this purple and green
one can see the heart of a lion
has taken it's place
in a lion on the chase
the party goes on through the night
on up to the first brahma muhurta light
yes he is quite the dancer
to believe it is our benefit
certainly the rsis know who is in control
but whenever they think they've got him caught
he's quicker than they thought
he seems to slip through their locked door
next to his ear he likes a blue flower
and in the leis today are roses mums orchids chamomile
a plumeria or two guaranteed to raise a smile
in the afternoon Cycle Babble and i thought it best to let our pedals roll
along the main street chasing down a pack of cruisers
over the first highway past champ hatti
as we approach we find their creed is don't hurry
they bow to their king and we salute
on round the corner in a hoot
ratha-bhojana-vrksa cals out
Cycle Babble begins the homeward route
through treacherous triangle and strawberry choc-o-lot
singing a song while marcedo de las pulgas listens
the rock and roll glistens
kalarupa takes us back to the sunset celebration
we come in this side of the maya curtain that separates
thakura vary from natha mandir
kirtan chanted loud and clear
nightdress "deep within the far off jungle"
sees the thakuras dance sing and bungle
after Murka has put them into bed
till brahma muhurta arati allows darsana with the dancing actor
